The tour has been well supported by players over the years since it started in 2004 and has grown to be a world class poker event. Each tournament is filmed for television broadcast and features on various TV channels across the World.
In 2013, the World Poker Tour added a super high roller series known as the Alpha 8. So far, each season has had four events, each with a $100,000 buy-in event (and a £60,000 event in London). Currently, the WPT doesn’t have any events listed for this year, but there have been no reports of the events being canceled.
For the last eight years, the largest tournament in the world has been the World Series of Poker Main Event. With the exception of 1992, the US$10,000 buy-in tournament increased in prize pool year-over-year from its start in 1970 until 2007 (the latter a result of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, which reduced the number of players winning their seats via online play).
During Season XVI of the World Poker Tour, the winner of the Hublot WPT Player of the Year award will be the player who earns the most POY points during the period comprising such WPT Season. In the event of a tie, the player who earns the most money in such Season will win Hublot WPT Player of the Year for such Season.
