The name “Alameda” was adopted in 1872, referring to the groves or lanes of poplar trees. By the twentieth century, Alameda had been typecast as a “bedroom city” with residential areas cropping up, due in part to the desirable flow of trolley, train, and ferry transportation services.
~ Located at First Presbyterian Church, 2001 Santa Clara Ave. Alameda, CA. **The Gift Boutique and Gourmet Shop (both located at the Alameda Elks’ Lodge) are open to the public. The Holiday Dessert Tea and Home Tour are open to ticket holders only. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE NO SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE FOR THE 2019 TOUR
