I went on one 5 years ago so this maybe out of date. They gave a tour of the rooms which are lovely compared to the normal ward. When I got there in labour the birthing centre was full and I was pushing so I gave birth on the maternity ward, but they then let me stay the night in the birthing centre.

I had DD at the birth centre at Queen Charlottes and I was in a room afterwards, not paid for, but ensuite and with a pull-out bed for DH. As I remember it, paying for a room then includes a tv and a fridge too. One of my friends did this after a fairly difficult and long induction ending in lots of intervention.
